Orchid Star

    This class is advanced piecing and advanced appliqué combined in one project to make a stunning quilt.  The quilt was designed to provide an original setting for a wreath of orchids.  The large Eight Point Star gives an unseamed octagon centre.  This is accented with pieced points and an unusual border. 

    The first day of class focuses on piecing.  The next day looks at more advanced appliqué techniques needed to produce intricate flowers and stems.  Focus is placed upon flower shading and perfecting sewing machine skills.

Hand Appliqué - "A To Z"

    Come and explore the pleasure of learning how to appliqué by hand.  Try all the notions that can make a project more enjoyable.  All facets of appliqué styles will be fully demonstrated in class with practice patches. 

    All the little tips that make a project or technique work even better will shared like circles, stem making, those perfect points and much more. 

    Class project will be from my book, "Colonial Appliqué", by That Patchwork Place.

Hot & Cold Nine Patch

    Something old made new again.  simple Nine Patches are given a new life with the use of colour.  An art style quilt is the result of working with a multi-fabric concept. 

    This class is for rotary cutting and sewing machines.  Students will learn quick and easy techniques was well as how a maximize the use of colour for great graphic effect.  A creative border treatment is used.  Guaranteed fun for all levels of quilt maker.

Dimensional Log Cabin

    Colour, Colour.  Make it work for you.  This is a simple quilt to construct.  But it has great visual effect.  Only one block is used.  Explore the possibilities of hot and cold colour combinations.  This class is designed for beginner to intermediate quilt maker.

    Emphasis is placed upon learning proper rotary cutting techniques.  Tips for pressing and machine piecing are also shared.

Mariners Compass For The Sewing Machine

    Learn all the techniques to rotary cut and machine piece even the most difficult compass.  This quilt design is always a real show stopper, and it is even more impressive when it is learned that you were able to do it on the sewing machine. 

    We will discuss colour placement and all the little tricks that have made the compass one of my favourite classes to teach.  This class is suitable for advanced beginner to advanced levels.

Easy Pieced Seascape

    This class is an easy project using piecing and colour shading to crate depth of image.  The quilt pattern Tumbling Blocks is the basis for this contemporary quilt.

    Students acquire the skills of "setting-in", placement of colour value and working in non traditional construction units.  Rotary cutting and machine piecing are an essential part of the class.  Border treatment is a focus point of this class as I encourage a multi-fabric approach to this project.  It is great for scraps too.  This class is for all skill levels.

Originality in Appliqué

    Flowers and leaves in all their variations are the subject of the majority of appliqué.  Learn to make your designs grow.  By re-drawing the lines of a traditional square block into new shapes, a more original design emerges. 

    My design process is very low tech and not difficult for any level of quilt maker to achieve excellent results.  There are easy ways to look at the practical how-to of colour placement. 

    This is a two-day class, the first day will be for creating an original design plan and the second day will be used for colour and appliqué development.

When Compasses Collide

    The next step in Mariners Compass for the Sewing Machine.  A more advanced class in piecing and a lesson in using an unusual design layout.  Rotary cutting with templates is also featured.  An in-depth discussion about fabric choices to help create a more modern image is featured. 

    Special attention is given to all aspects of machine work, creating a border treatment as well as utilizing the quilt back for a design surface.

Spin A Quilt

    Create motion, utilize colour and make an original design of interlocking circles.  This is a great opportunity to use all the great scraps you might have in your fabric stash. 

    Based upon a traditional quilt block, entirely rotary cut and machined pieced, any skill level will have fun with the intriguing design process.  This workshop is an excellent opportunity of work with a great assortment of colour within one design.  Lots of fun.

Flower Shading for Appliqué

        The objective of this class is to shade flowers and leaves to create a painterly appliqué design.  An in-depth discussion about fabric selections will help students find just the right fabric to achieve texture and depth of image with their own flowers.  Class will learn how to shade a cabbage rose and work on a small project of many different flowers.  This class is for all skill levels of quilt maker.

Heart To Heart

    Paper piecing combined with colour gradation make an interesting small wall quilt.  Students learn how to pre-cut fabrics to reduce waste and increase speed in piecing.  Focus in class is on selecting colour gradation through the use of colour value.

    Lots of tips for the sewing machine, and for rotary cutting.  This class is for all skill levels.

Hawaiian Appliqué

    A quilt making classic in appliqué.  Based upon paper cutting techniques, students will develop and begin work on this Tea Tree Leaf Pattern.  There are several techniques involved in successfully working within this style of quilt design.  One aspect of the workshop is pattern preparation, as well as cutting the centre motif.  Appliqué work will include sharp points, rounded curves and stitch invisibility.  This workshop is for all skill levels.
